Big Stuff From The Big Apple

Jackson, Ohio

Jackson, Ohio

From Columbus south to the Ohio River the radio landscape is changing dramatically,  in part to several recent transactions from a radio group in the small town of Jackson.

Jackson is about 70 miles southeast of Columbus and serves as the halfway point to the Ohio River and is the crossroads of US35 and 32.

Founded in 1817 and named after Andrew Jackson,  this small town of 6,200 is famous for its Annual Apple Festival,  Friday Night Football and now one of the largest Radio Groups in the State of Ohio and the Midwest.    This Company would be Jackson County Broadcasting.

Jackson County Broadcasting is led by  Jackson Native Cora Willett.   Willett,  the new President of Jackson County Broadcasting is the Daughter of Ohio Businessman Alan Stockmeister who served as President of the Company until recently.

Stockmeister has long been known for his creative and relentless pursuit of bringing Business to Jackson while running a National Commercial Construction Company,  HVAC Company and a score of Local Businesses including the Newspaper,  Movie Theater and Bowling Alley just to name a few.    He is also an Ohio Commodore and Trustee of The Ohio State University.

Jackson County Broadcasting has been the operator of popular Southern Ohio Radio Station,  WKOV 96.7-a station that made the trades in the early 2000’s for an attempted move to Frazeysburg, Ohio which would have increased the stations coverage from all Rural Ohio to portions of Metro Columbus.    It also operates Country WCJO 97.7,  Classic Rock WYRO 98.7 and Sport 105.3/1330 WYPC.

In 2023,  so far Jackson County Broadcasting has increased its portfolio with the addition of Radio Stations in Athens, Ohio and Waverly, Ohio and has recently been approved by the Federal Communications Commission for the purchase of another cluster of stations in the Gallipolis, Ohio-Point Pleasant, West Virginia Market-2 Cities on each side of the Ohio River.

With recent additions,  this brings the grand total of stations operated by Jackson County Broadcasting to 19 Signals.   At this time, that is approximately 15 Brands.

If you look on a map of the State of Ohio and you put your finger in the middle at Columbus and follow that to the Ohio River,  chances are you could travel that entire part of Ohio and listen to a Jackson County Broadcasting Station.

This truly is BIG Stuff coming from the Big Apple.   Is there more to come?

That is an answer that only Mrs. Willett and Mr. Stockmeister can answer but we’re sure time will tell.

As we say in this business-stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated.

Best of luck and congratulations to Jackson County Broadcasting on an impressive job of expanding your portfolio.
